FMD - Maryland
Celeste,
I hope all goes well for you at Johns Hopkins. I think it was a good choice to switch.
The Washington Hospital Center was relatively good for me. They diagnosed FMD in my right renal artery on ultrasound and subsequently found it in my left renal artery as well on angio. I had balloon angioplasty on both last February. My bloodpressure is now back within normal range without medication. The doctors at WHC did not think I needed tests for other arteries until I showed them many medical articles on FMD (I guess I had to educate them, unfortunately.) But after that, they did ultrasound and nuclear MRI of my head, neck, and heart and did not find anything on those tests. So, I just hope and pray things go okay. I also contacted a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic who specializes in FMD and she reviewed my records. I will be going into WHC for a renal ultrasound in February and then once a year after that. I will try to be proactive about my medical care. I also asked my last Congressperson, Connie Morella, for help and she wrote a letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson, requesting research funding for FMD. If you would like to see that letter I could probably find it.
